My Light painting edited in photoshop

These are my Light painting photos and what i done with this was we took a picture in a dark room just like the Multi-colourful ipad photos but the difference was we didn't use the ipad we used lazor pen which meant that we had to keep our eyes fully closed as the pens were shinning on our eyes. This experiment was a good experiment but i prefer the ipad photos than these. I also edited the photo in photoshop and this showed a dramatic change to the picture what i did was i, made the photo lighter, changed the Hue/saturation and contrast.

My portraits

My Portrait photos

These are my portrait photos that i have taken. These photos are just experiments that came out really well which made me think i should use such photos in my final Light project. I took central portraits photo with the light shining on Christine, i then went into the Darkroom to make a negative photo and my photos came out with a scary look.

My Light Painting photos

My Light project with the IPAD

This is the photo i took from the camera which came out really well. The photo had different muti-colours on there which made the photo come out really good. The potential of this photo is the colours that has been presented. The photo has been taken with a black background and the different colour lighting from the iPad makes the photo look more effective. The limitation of this photo is that the photo is blurry. However, this may be because we had to take a photo in the dark and because it was dark we couldn't see if the photo is in focus or out of focus. As i went onto photoshop i recreated my photo to make the brightness of the iPad colours more brighter. This is presented in the second photo.

Rochons work has inspired me because it has given us ideas of which different types of lighting that can be used and how you may and can use them.
I would like to take this photo more further by using it for my final piece but ensuring that the photo would be in focus.

Patrick Rochons

Patrick Rochons was born in Ireland and was born in 1976. His artwork was called "Light paintings" and he started this in 1992but declared himself as a full time light painter in 1997. Rochons is also know for visionary light portraits and produces some beautiful work.
The light painting of his has a good effect which gives the audience a "WOW" look. These photos look realistic without and exaggeration. The different types of light that is shown makes the photo look bright and colourful which makes you want to look at the photo again. Rochons does not have a particular theme, his imagination is unique and he uses photos of different things such as, body parts, faces, body; with clothing on and without clothing, for example.

The types of editing that has been shown in this photo is in the top left one the first photo of the man looks like it is a long shot that has been cut off half way. The photo looks like he has a mask on his face and the bright orange effect makes the photo look more effective especially, the red Laser pen that has been used. This may represent that men are powerful. The naked picture of the women may represent women being uncomfortable of there body parts. Rochon's has two meaning for his photos which can be represented negatively or positively. This photo is also a medium shot which cuts off her legs. The multi-colour on the women has a wonderful effect because its not just one colour. There is light shining only on the mans face in the first photos and light all over the women's body. However, the other photo with the two faces are close up shots which are side views of their faces. There is a side light shining on the girls face and a central light shining on the boys face. The photos are arranged beside each other.

The contrast of the photo has a very bright light and because the he has a black background the contrast shows more which makes the photo look exciting. It also has different types of tone lighting shown for example, in the second photo of the man there are some thin lines which get bigger as they go up to his face and on his neck the lights are quite big. Rochons photos inspired me to know how to use this different light because of the outcome it comes out with such as, the colour and contrast. This is also good for my light project.
The photo that have been taken has been planned and i can see this because when i experimented photos of my own the person has to stay still and the shutter speed had to be on for a while at least ten seconds which means the person posing had to stay still for a while. My outcome also came out with colours that were effective such as, light blue.

Light collage

David Bailey of Jack Nicholsons's Portrait

This artwork was made by David Bailey and the artwork is called "Jack Nicholson". Bailey is a british photographer. He was born in 1938 but he mainly came out in the 1960's. The theme of the work looks like its a movie but Bailey has taken photos with a digital camera as the movie was being made. The reason i assumed that was because i don't think someone can hold their face like that for such a long time. Also, this photo looks like Nicholson is shouting at someone and because the character from "The Shining" goes insane. This then represents an insane man because the character looks angry.
Jack Nicholson is a Actor which he then shows many facial expressions and this helps Bailey because a 'normal' person may not be able to make such emotions as Nicholson.
The photo has been taken with deliberation and has been exaggerated. The reason it has been deliberately taken is because of the way the light is shining on his face this shows that Bailey may have wanted this shot of Nicholson. Being a character in a movie you have to exaggerate in the photo or movie and Nicholson's photo expresses that.
The meaning of the photo is obvious but the photographer has made it obvious for the audience to know what the character is doing but then because it is a photo the audience may think "is he angry" "is he shouting" and other thoughts so it makes the audience want to think about the photo.

This photo has been framed as a close up shot and is a portrait photo and the orientation of the photo is portrait. The portrait is a central image to the photo frame. In this photo Bailey took black and white Portrait with the light shining on Nicholson's face with a white background. In the photo there is highlights and shadows which highlights Nicholson's wrinkles This photo can represent shouting"Here's Johnny", Pain or Anger.
The photo looks a bit toned or contrasty because of the light shinning on one side of his face. This shows a dark side and a light side. This then can represent that Nicholson has two different personalities. As the photo shows its clearly not a happy photo, it makes people want to know why this man may be angry? and may want grab peoples attention to watch the movie.

In the 80's they did not have the same technology as now such as, No digital camera, strong lighting from the side, Fast shutter to capture movements and many more things. I think Baileys photo was planned but i don't think the exact shot was planned but because the photo came out with excellent quality he decided to use the photo. I think Bailey used dramatic lighting which had an effect on one side of Nicholson's face, close up on the camera, a stand which gave the photo a central look. Bailey may have used selective developing such as, being thin the dark room to process the photo and give it a more of a contrast look.

Andre Kertez & Edward Weston Comparison

The picture of the pepper is made by Edward Watson who was born in Chicago but then later moved to California. This photo has a soft focus which then shows it is soft, smooth and not hard or sharp. The blur to the photo is really common in the 19th - 20th century for him. The soft focus has an effect to the blur because it makes the pepper stand out which especially because it has more lines in the pepper this shows the pepper is organic. Watson suffered from Parkinson's disease and died in 1958.

The picture if the the fork and the side of the plate was made by Andre Kertez. His inspiration was from magazine photos. Kertez had four different periods through out his life these periods were called the Hungarian period, the French period, the American period and the International period.

However, both of the pictures look like modern day photos. They both look natural but Watsons photo has more of a intense look to the photo. As i first looked at the photo i thought it was boxing gloves that  were zoomed into the camera. Where as, in the Kertez' picture its a more 'everyday life' theme.

In both photos the type of editing the photographers use is a close up. In the pepper photo the lighting of the photo has a dark shadow at the back of the photo which may show that the light may be placed in the centre and straight at the pepper because at the bottom of the pepper you can see light shinning onto the pepper. The fork photo has a more contrast to the photo because there is light shinning at the side of the image which shows a more detail structure to the plate than the paper, it also has a shine to the fork and shows the plate.

Personally Kertez' photo was better than Watsons because of contrast and focus it has on the Digital camera. It also has a shine on the fork which makes the photo look beautiful with different types of highlights. On the other hand, the photo of the pepper has a dull background and its hard to recognise what the photo actually is but the texture of the photo is amazing.

Roni Horns Clown Analysis

My Clown Analysis
Roni Horn was born in 1955 and she is an American visual artist and writer. Today’s lesson was about Roni Horns clown photography, the clown photos. The photos that have been taken looks like they’ve been taken from a digital SLR camera that has been set with a slow shutter speed which gives a very blurred effect to the image. The actor of the clown is making funny faces, which is in a fast movement. The actor is in front of a white wall or a white background which makes the picture look clearer. This highlights the red on the face making this the focal point of the image. The actor looks like a man with his face painted white and red paint or lipstick on his lips as if he was a clown. The different type of faces that the camera has captured may look scary and different to ‘normal’ clown faces. Clowns are normally entertainers and are considered to be entertainment for children. However, this clown image is deliberately meant to be shocking, scary and might make the view feel uncomfortable to look at it.
These photos are out of focus which makes it hard for us to see what kind of faces the clown is making. The blurring effect gives a horrific look to the clowns face because the mouths and other features become distorted. The photo makes me feel disturbed because of the way it looks.
This clown reminds me of watching scary movies such as, Saw and Scream. The use of the colour red has a double meaning, on the one hand the red nose and mouth of the clown symbolise a bright and happy disposition but in this case, they give off the impression of blood and gore which makes you feel uncomfortable.
Roni Horn's use of shutter speed is really good and is matchless. This makes people want to see more of her art work because other photographers may not have thought about taking pictures of a clown which can show two different meanings.

SLR Camera

On the SLR camera the aperture worked by turning it left and right to open your lens and close it,

as your adjusting the focusing, your adjusting the background of the main picture for example, if you was taking a picture of someone and wanted the background to be clear, you will use the focus to make the background of the person more clearer.
As the shutter speed is pressed on your camera, it takes a shot based on the settings of the camera for example, how the aperture and focus is set on the camera. However, before taking the picture a red '+' and '-' may appear which will then mean the you may need to make some adjustments to the aperture of the focusing. When a green light appear's, you are then ready to capture the photo. If  the light is is -' there's too little light and if it '+' there's too much light.
This was a good experience for me to learn about the camera and how it works

Man Ray Analysis

Man Ray biological name is Emmanuel Radnitzky and he is an american artist but spent most of his life in paris. His art includes painting, sculpture, collage, constructed object and photography. He worked in paris from 1921 to 1940. One of his assistants was Picasso.

Man Ray once said "I paint what can not be photographed. I photograph what i do not wish to paint

These are some of Man Ray photos. My opinion is Man ray takes serious photos especially photos in black and white which makes the photos look old for example, the 16th century.

Still life/ Light Project

This picture looks as if someone just finished eating by the way the fork is placed. In this picture there is different types of lighting showing in the image such as,the dark shadow from the plate and the fork. This then shows that the light has been shined onto the plate and fork from a birds eye view. What i liked about this picture is the way the shadow is shining in the plate which makes it look bigger than it actually is.

In this picture it shows a road which the background has been shaded out in black and a street light has been lit. The street light that has been lit is the brightest light. This looks like the only light that is being shown. The road looks clear which shows it may be midnight. The two little lights on the right and left of the central light is tiny which may represent stars.
This photo look like a past photo which looks like a mirror that his drawing on. There is not a lot of light and may be because this picture is suppose to be black and white. The light that is shining onto this picture is the light coming from outside which looks like a window. This may be a 'natural picture'. The corners of this picture is a bit darker than the rest of the photo.
This picture looks like the photographer has shined the light in their faces. They look like brothers and a band. The type of light that is shining on them is from the left hand side which makes the other side darker than the rest.

Evaluation

I personally think i have achieved and done well in this project. The different types of experiments i did such as, pin hole experiments, being in the dark room and developing, tracing paper experiments and others. Some of the work that we have done has been a big challenge but I've enjoyed the challenge.
The person that really inspired me was Justin Quinnell. His a photographer that uses pin hole cameras and what he does is he put the little camera in his mouth and takes many photos of different things.
This was a very unique and interesting thing to do thats why his work grabbed my attention. For my final piece i did not use what Quinnell used.

What did you do?
The theme of the project was "Everyday life". i decided to take pictures of things around college because that is an everyday theme. I went around college and took pictures of different things such as, the buildings, people talking, the buses that the students get on and so on. i then processed my film and picked one that was in focus and was interesting. I developed the film by using the developer and used many experiments. This then helped me to know what i would like to do for my final piece.

My final piece came out with really good photos but i think i could have done better photos such as, a range of things out of college. Experimenting was a bit difficult because i had to do a various range of experimenters to know which photo i would like, especially because you have to do test strips to know how much time you should develop you photo for. However, the most enjoyable time was doing the experiments and knowing what i did wrong and what i need to change. This helped me to achieve my work and to understand some of the concepts about developing and being in the dark room. Another technique i enjoyed was the tracing paper picture when i drew a picture on to tracing paper to put it on my final piece. This makes my work look calm and have a happy theme. Its also very unique and interesting.
My Final piece is linked to the theme "Everyday" because its things around the college. College plays a big part to most teenagers as most teenagers attend college in their teenager years. My intention or ideas of my photographs was to show how college can be calm and be a "cool" place to be. I then try to encourage students to attend college and achieve something such as, a goal. The picture that represents this is when the girl 'Niaomi' is sitting at the computer desk doing her work.
If i had a chance to go back to my work i would make some changes and improvements. This would be to take pictures of different things such as, houses, local shops, shopping centres, children in the park and many more. This will then show a range of different 'Everyday' life.

Overall, i found the project interesting and different to what photographs do. This project inspired me a lot and made me want to learn more about the project and do other experiments.

Quinnels photos

Justin Quinnell is a photography that makes wondrous pinhole photography. When Quinnell was four he had a lot of operations on his eyes. He had a patch on his eye which had a small hole coming out of it for him to see. Quinnell was a teacher and because Photograph contains many different materials, in the olden days, many children could not afford a lot of things such as cameras. Quinnel then thought the children could make cameras out of the Coke cans they buy every day. Quinnell worked as a consultant for the movie “The brothers bloom”.
I think the different things that has occurred in his life such as, the eye patch and making a camera out of Coke cans helped Quinnell to extend his knowledge on Pinhole cameras and has been a big inspiration to many students such as, myself to want to learn more about Pinhole cameras and different ways I could make cameras using the Pinhole experiment.

Technical Studies: Photos

Technical Studies: photos

This is my test strip that i done and the photo came out to dark. The timing was on for too long with no filter on and at F8.

My technical study: photos

These two photos are my test strips and what i have done was i went into the Darkroom and set the timing to one second. I then had a dark black paper which i moved every one second. This helps me because i then know the timing that i should set when i do a picture full picture. The first picture at the top was too light which would have given me the wrong timing. I done the test strip again and it gave me the right timing.
